My Mom was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1983. She had a lumpectomy followed by 12 weeks of radiation. The cancer came back 5 years later in 1988. This time she got a mastectomy. Years went by and our family got back to normal. Cancer, we thought, was something in the past. Then in 2005, doctors found the breast cancer had returned and migrated to her hip bone. Cancer had slowly crept back into our family’s lives and slowly stole my Mom’s life in June of 2010.
As time was running out for my Mom, my Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. Growing up, my Dad rarely got the common cold let alone had any serious health problems. He lived 6 months longer than the average, finally succumbing to the disease in June of 2011.
As you can imagine this loss has had a profound effect on me. It is why I’m making this film. I want this film to empower cancer patients and their families and ultimately provide them hope. I am exploring what cancer is, why we get it, and how we prevent it. And I’m presenting the information to the viewer, so YOU can decide the best course of action.
